August 2011, Srushti started another project .. an attempt to improve the degraded forest land around the backwaters of famous Ambazari lake. The land was transferred to Forest Department as a compensatory for the Bawanthadi project. Ambazari lake has been a iconic feature of the city and at one time used to be winter home for thousands of migratory birds. The lake was also a source of water for the city in olden days.
It was indeed a shocking truth to know that the Seven Hundred and Fifty Eight (758ha.) hectares of land surrounding the iconic Ambazari Lake in heart of the city has been severely degraded due to the apathy of state forest department, ignorant Civic authorities and surprisingly due to ignorance of nature lovers.The said piece of land has also been dogged under a lot of pressure from cattle grazing and was been ignored by the authorities.
We feel that a joint effort by all of us will help Ambazari Lake regains its lost glory and the rejuvenation of the 1900 acres of forest land adjoining the lake will not only act as a carbon sink, but will also provide a conducive habitat to thousands of resident and migratory birds.
To mark the begining of "Ambazari Reserved Forest Conservation Moment", a small event was organised o 15th August 2012, to undertake plantation with public participation. Other NGOs, Forest Department, Civic Authorities, School Children and residents from nearby localities were invited to plant saplings on the occasion.
